Multiple Injury Car Crash Involves Manhattan Restaurant

NYPD is looking for a white sedan in connection with a car accident that sent an SUV crashing into the front of a restaurant in Manhattan the night of Jan. 2. According to an ABC7 news report, the sedan struck a livery vehicle that was operating as an Uber. The force of the crash sent that SUV careening into the front of the restaurant. Officials said at least 22 people were injured in the collision, all of them because of flying glass and debris.

Ongoing Crash Investigation

Of the injured, 19 people were taken to area hospitals. The most seriously injured victim was a 10-year-old girl who officials said might have suffered a broken leg. A 7-year-old child was also injured. The driver of the SUV was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, as was his female passenger. Three other victims declined medical attention at the scene.

The restaurant’s manager told ABC7 that it was remarkable no one was catastrophically injured or killed. Police are looking into whether the white sedan’s driver was speeding away from a dispute nearby when the vehicle struck the rideshare SUV. Officials are asking the driver of the sedan to turn himself in. The investigation is still ongoing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were injured in this crash.

Liability Issues

In a hit-and-run crash, the driver and vehicle owner are both responsible parties even if the owner was not driving when the accident occurred. If the driver was on the job and/or operating a company vehicle at the time, his or her employer can also be held liable. When the driver is apprehended in a hit-and-run case, he or she can be held financially liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused.

Such drivers can be held financially responsible whether or not they are arrested and/or charged. If a hit-and-run driver has injured you, please remember that you can seek compensation through the uninsured motorist clause of your auto insurance policy (even though the driver has not been identified) or through a quasi-state agency if there is no motor vehicle in the victim’s household.

Victims and their families in such cases should retain an experienced personal injury lawyer right away to help protect their legal rights. A family who has lost a loved one in a hit-and-run crash can file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation as well. Anyone who has been injured in a crash involving a rideshare vehicle would also be well advised to consult a rideshare accident lawyer who can advise them about the process for seeking compensation in such cases.
