In this case, a house was intentionally set on fire by a crack addict who was in the house for 8 hours before the fire. Because the home owner (landlord) did not have smoke detectors installed in one of the apartments, one child unfortunately died and another suffers from brain damage. The building owner (landlord) lived somewhere else and so, had no knowledge of the crack addict being there. We were able to recover $985,000 out of a $1,000,000 possible full policy. Another tenant demanded $250,000 out of the same insurance policy, but only recovered the remaining $15,000 of the policy by way of their own attorney.
