PedestriansActress Lindsay Lohan was arrested after officials say she struck a Manhattan chef with her Porsche and left the scene. According to a report in the New York Daily News, the injury collision occurred in an alley between the Maritime and Dream hotels in Chelsea. Lohan was charged with leaving the scene of an accident two hours after the incident. Although the victim alleged that the actress’ speech was slurred and that she smelled of alcohol, no Breathalyzer test was performed. Lohan is currently on probation in connection with a theft case.
The alleged victim says he had just left a restaurant and was walking on an underground ramp when Lohan’s car sped up and hit him. He said he fell to the side and that Lohan told him to move out of the way and drove off. He then called 911 and was transported to a local hospital where he said doctors told him he had torn tendons. The investigation is ongoing.
Leaving the Scene of an Accident
Leaving the scene of an injury car accident or hit-and-run is a serious crime under New York law. The law requires motorists to stop immediately and remain at the scene of the crash regardless of whose fault the collision was. Motorists must also exchange information with the other parties involved and try to get aid for the injured victims.
Injuries and Damages
Pedestrians are definitely at risk for significant injuries in a collision with a motor vehicle. In this particular case, the victim said he suffered knee injuries. Pedestrian accident victims may also suffer other serious injuries such as brain injuries, spinal cord damage, broken bones and internal organ damage. When negligence on the part of the driver causes a vehicle versus pedestrian accident, victims can seek compensation for damages including, but not limited to, medical expenses, loss of wages and benefits, cost of hospitalization, physical therapy, permanent injuries, past and future pain and suffering, etc.
