Complaints Involving Botched Surgeries Pile Up against Staten Island Cosmetic Surgeon

Team of surgeon A Staten Island cosmetic surgeon has lost his medical license after a slew of medical malpractice complaints by “butchered patients,” the New York Daily News reports. The article states that the city’s Health Department has declared the 71-year-old surgeon an “imminent threat to the health and safety” of New Yorkers.
So far, there have been several complaints from patients. A female teacher was left blind in one eye after a botched eyelid lift in 2005. In another case, a 20-year-old man suffered kidney failure and nearly bled to death during a tummy tuck procedure. In that case, the cosmetic surgeon tried to stop an ambulance from transporting the bleeding man from his office to a hospital’s emergency room, officials say.
Another woman suffered severe scarring as a result of a botched neck and face-lift. Patients and safety advocates say the Health Department waited too long to act. More than 40 medical malpractice lawsuits have been filed against the surgeon who has been practicing since 1968.
Consequences of Botched Surgeries
This horrifying story attests as to why it is crucial for individuals seeking cosmetic surgery to do their research and make inquiries prior to the procedure. When cosmetic surgery goes wrong, the consequences can be devastating and may include disfigurement, permanent injuries, scars, internal organ damage, infection or even death. Individuals who are already unhappy or uncomfortable with their physical appearance often suffer severe emotional injuries after a botched cosmetic procedure.
If you are considering cosmetic surgery, it is very important to understand all of the possible complications or side effects. It is also important to seek information regarding the legal options available if the surgery goes wrong. When surgical errors occur, the injured victim may be able to seek legal compensation from the at-fault doctor or medical facility by filing a medical malpractice claim. Damages that may be covered include hospital bills, lost wages, permanent injuries, emotional distress, past and future pain and suffering, etc.
