Seventeen people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Woodside, Queens, New York which sent a school bus plowing into a building. According to a CBS news report, two cars collided at the intersection of Woodside Avenue and 59th Street causing one of the vehicles to end up on the sidewalk. A school bus that was also involved in the crash went out of control and struck a building that housed a pizzeria and a shoe store.
A witness told the media that he heard violent screeching and crashing sounds as he walked away from the intersection. There were children on board the school bus at the time of the crash. Seventeen people suffered injuries of which two were seriously hurt. The school bus driver, a pizzeria employee and drivers of the livery and taxicab involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries. There were 15 children on the bus, all between 6 and 10. The nature and extent of the other victims’ injuries is not known. We wish all those who were injured in this crash the very best for a quick and full recovery.
Street Intersection Crashes
Street intersection crashes can cause significant injuries to people as well as damage to property. Busy intersections tend to be crowded with vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles. This means there is the possibility of more people getting injured in these types of accidents. Street intersection accidents are often caused by driver error. For example, drivers may fail to obey traffic control devices such as stop lights or stop signs. They may fail to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic. Or they may make an unsafe or illegal turn. Impaired, distracted or reckless driving can also result in such accidents.
Compensation for Injured Victims
Injured victims of street intersection accidents can seek compensation from the at-fault parties for damages including, but not limited to, medical expenses, lost wages and benefits, hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injury, disability, past and future pain and suffering, etc.
