Safety Tips to Ring in the New Year

new yearWe are here at the end of 2013 and getting just about ready to ring in another new year. During this holiday period many people tend to attend local events and parties. Many more may be heading out to Times Square to watch the ball drop. Some may take long road trips to welcome 2014 with their family members and friends.

Tips for a Safe Holiday
Regardless of how you choose to celebrate the holiday, it is important to bear in mind a few safety tips that should help keep you and your loved ones injury-free:
• Do not drink and drive. If you are going to be partying this New Year’s Eve, call a taxi or designate a sober driver to take you home.
• If you plan on walking, wear bright clothes. Do not walk or take the bus or subway when you are inebriated.
• If you are hosting a party, encourage your family and friends to stay at your place. Serve non-alcoholic beverages as an option for your guests. Stop serving alcohol several hours before the party ends and serve more food.
• When you take a trip, always remember to buckle up. Seatbelts save lives.
• Drive your teenagers to holiday gatherings. Even though they may not like it, it is better that you drive them as the more experienced driver.
• When you drive, avoid all distractions. Turn off your cell phone or other electronic devices. Map your route before starting out on the trip.
• Do not drive when you are fatigued. Make sure you get enough rest, at least eight hours of sleep, before you set out on your road trip.
• Look out for drunk or reckless drivers. Report them right away by calling 911.
