A 37-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision in Queens, New York. The victim was a passenger in a taxicab that was heading eastbound on the Long Island Expressway service road. At the time, a Chrysler Sebring traveling the wrong way crashed into the taxi, according to the New York Post. The impact of the collision was so intense it launched the victim from his seat into the lap of the driver. The taxicab driver survived the crash. The wrong-way driver of the Chrysler fled the scene of the crash on foot. Officials are still looking for the hit-and-run suspect. It is unclear what caused the driver to go the wrong way on the Expressway. An investigation is ongoing.
There are many causes for auto accidents. Most often, car accidents in New York are caused by negligent drivers. It is unclear whether alcohol or impaired driving was a factor in this fatal Queens accident. However, hundreds of car accidents in New York City are alcohol-related. Some of the other auto accident causes include, but are not limited to, failure to yield right-of-way, red light running, running stop signs, speeding and distracted driving. Motorists are not always at fault. Sometimes, a defective auto or a dangerous roadway may also play a role in a car accident.
Injuries in car accidents could range from minor or moderate to major or serious. Please remember, if you were in a car accident, you don’t need to have had broken bones, or have gone into a coma, or have suffered a massive injury in order to receive compensation for pain and suffering. If you were injured in a car accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you may well have a case.
