Prospect Expressway Pile Up in Brooklyn injures 10 People

Ten people were injured, five seriously, in a seven-car accident that also involved an MTA bus. According to a report on NBC New York, the incident began when two vehicles involved in a relatively minor crash had pulled to the side of the road near the 4th Avenue exit on the Prospect Expressway in Windsor Terrace the afternoon of Feb. 26.

Major Injuries Reported

Police said as the drivers of both vehicles were exchanging information, another vehicle lost control and smashed into the back of one of the stopped cars. This triggered a chain-reaction collision involving four other vehicles including an MTA bus. Ten people were injured in the crash with half of the victims suffering serious or potentially life-threatening injuries.

The five other victims were listed in stable condition. It was not immediately known if any of the injured were bus passengers. The investigation is ongoing. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was affected by this multi-vehicle crash. We wish them the best for a quick and full recovery.

What to Do If You’re Injured in a Car Accident

If you’ve been injured in a multi-vehicle car accident, there are a number of steps you would be well-advised to take in order to protect your legal rights. First and foremost, it is important to file a police report. Make sure you get a copy of this report for your own records. If you are unable to do so, your New York car accident attorney can help you get the police report for your records as well. This report is important because it may have critical information including who was at fault for the accident.

It is also important that you get prompt medical attention, treatment and care for your injuries. This not only helps you get on the road to recovery, but also creates documentation regarding the injuries you sustained and the type of treatment and therapy you received and continue to receive.

Collecting crucial evidence from the scene such as photos and videos of the crash scene, the damage on the vehicles, injuries, skid marks, etc. can also strengthen your claim. Most importantly, getting an experienced car accident lawyer on your side early on in the process will help you deal with insurance companies and avoid the pitfalls and mistakes that may potentially jeopardize your car accident claim.
