Common Causes of Two-Car Collisions

Two-car collisions are among the most frequent types of traffic accidents and often result from driver error, road conditions or vehicle issues. One of the most common causes is rear-end collisions, typically due to tailgating or distracted driving. When a driver follows another vehicle too closely or fails to pay attention, they may not stop in time to avoid a crash.

Left-turn accidents are another frequent cause, especially at intersections. These occur when a driver misjudges the speed of oncoming traffic or fails to yield the right of way. Similarly, side-impact or T-bone collisions often happen when drivers run red lights or stop signs.

Speeding, impaired driving (due to alcohol and/or drugs), and fatigue also significantly contribute to two-car crashes by reducing reaction time and decision-making ability. Poor weather conditions such as rain or snow can lead to skidding or loss of control, especially when combined with speeding or worn tires. Improper lane changes, failure to signal, and driver inattention could also be key contributors.

Steps to Take If You’ve Been Injured in a Car Accident

If you’ve been injured in a car accident, your first priority should be safety and medical care. Call 911 immediately. Even if your injuries may seem minor, some conditions may not be immediately apparent. Seek medical attention and follow all treatment recommendations. If you are physically able, document the accident scene by taking photos of vehicle damage, road conditions and visible injuries. Your personal injury lawyer can also help you get this information. Collect contact and insurance information from the other involved parties and try to get statements or contact information from any witnesses.

After the scene is secure and you’ve received medical care, reach out to a personal injury attorney. Avoid giving recorded statements or accepting early settlement offers without legal advice, as they may not reflect the full value of your claim. Keep records of all expenses, medical visits, lost wages and communications related to the accident. Acting quickly and thoughtfully can help protect your health, legal rights and financial future.
