Bronx Car Crash Leaves Eight People Injured

Dashcam video captured a shocking moment when a car sped through an intersection in the Bronx and struck several pedestrians before slamming into a coffee cart. According to a report in the New York Daily News, the crash occurred in Fordham Heights. Eight people were injured including the driver.

Injuries Sustained

The video shows a car stopping at Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue moments before the accident. Several people, including two with bicycles, can be seen crossing the street beneath the elevated 4 train tracks. A 2011 Infiniti suddenly appears from the left of the frame, strikes one person on a bicycle, and appears to knock down at least one pedestrian. Another person narrowly avoids being hit by the speeding vehicle.

The Infiniti can then be seen slamming into an SUV before crashing into a coffee cart on the sidewalk. The car’s driver, a 43-year-old man, was also hospitalized with unknown injuries. He has been charged with aggravated vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. The investigation is ongoing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were affected by this horrific car accident.

The use of Dashcam Footage

Our New York car accident lawyers often advise victims of crashes to gather evidence from the scene to help substantiate their claims. Recently, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where individuals have installed Dashcams or dashboard-mounted video cameras. These are essentially video cameras that record audio and sometimes video of what the driver is seeing out of the vehicle’s front windshield.

Dashcams can contain audio and video footage that serve as crucial evidence. When the crash occurs within the range of the camera and it captures the collision, it can settle a dispute about what occurred. When you have been injured in a car accident, it is important to get an experienced New York City car accident lawyer on your side early in the process. Your lawyer can help you secure and compile crucial evidence that will prove invaluable to your personal injury claim.

Negligent Drivers

Reckless or negligent (careless) driving is the most common cause of car accidents in New York City and frequently result in major injuries or those that prove disabling for victims as well as fatalities. Drivers who speed, or drive while distracted and/or impaired, drivers who fail to yield the right of way or run red lights and stop signs pose a definite danger to other road users. Such drivers tend to cause not just vehicle-related accidents, but also pedestrian accidents and bicycle accidents.

In such cases, the at-fault driver may face charges and penalties. In addition, he or she can be held financially liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims of car accidents can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income and benefits, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, permanent injuries, disabilities, past and future pain and suffering, etc. Also, please remember that the injured pedestrians here may be able to seek compensation for injuries and/or losses even if they were not walking in a marked crosswalk. Our law firm recovered the full one million dollar insurance policy for a girl who was not in the crosswalk when a motor vehicle hit her.
