Bronx Bus Crash Causes Multiple Injuries

Bronx Bus Crash A tour bus carrying Bronx high school students crashed in the town of Lake George the morning of April 19. According to a News10 report, the bus accident occurred in the area of Lake Shore Drive and Diamond Point Road. Officials said the bus was traveling east on Diamond Point Road when it failed to stop at the intersection with Lake Shore Drive continuing off-road into private property and hitting several trees, an outbuilding, a boat and vehicle before finally coming to a stop.

Ongoing Investigation

According to the American Red Cross, 17 students and six adults — who were from a number of different high schools in the Bronx — were on board the bus at the time of the crash. Four people were sent to Glens Falls Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The bus driver was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Other victims were reportedly transported to the sheriff’s office by a school bus provided by the local school district. Officials said the students were on their way back to New York City after a trip to the Adirondacks. The incident remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Tour Bus Accidents

Tour bus accidents can have serious consequences due to the number of passengers involved. Several common factors contribute to these incidents. Driver fatigue is one of the leading causes. Tour bus drivers often work long hours, sometimes across multiple days, which can reduce alertness and slow reaction times.

Mechanical failure is another major factor. Buses require regular maintenance, and issues such as brake failure, tire blowouts, steering problems, etc. can lead to loss of control, especially at high speeds or on steep terrain. Road and weather conditions also play a role. Slippery roads from rain, snow or ice can make it difficult to handle large vehicles. Sharp turns, narrow mountain roads or poorly maintained highways increase the risk of rollover accidents.

Driver error including speeding, distracted driving or misjudging road conditions, is another key contributor. Because buses are larger and heavier than standard vehicles, they require greater skill and caution to operate safely. Finally, poor operator/company safety practices such as inadequate training or skipped inspections can increase accident risk.

What to Do If You Are Injured in a Tour Bus Crash

If you are injured in a tour bus crash, your first priority should be safety and medical attention. Check yourself and others for injuries, and call emergency services immediately if help has not already arrived. Even if your injuries appear minor, it is important to seek medical evaluation, as some injuries may not manifest right away.

Once you are safe, try to document the scene. Take photos of the crash site, vehicle damage, road conditions and any visible injuries. Collect contact information from witnesses, the bus driver, and other passengers. If law enforcement responds, request a copy of the accident report, as it will be useful later. Your bus accident lawyer can also help you gather these crucial details.

Avoid discussing fault or making detailed statements to insurance representatives at the scene. As soon as possible, keep records of all medical treatments, expenses and any missed work due to your injuries. It is also important to contact an experienced New York bus accident attorney as soon as possible.

We also obtained $295,000 out of a $300,000 insurance policy in compensation for the victim of a bicycle dooring accident (where a car door opens into the path of a bicyclist).
