Five students and an adult aide were injured in a school bus accident in Amherst, New York. According to a report on Buffalonews.com, the aide was seriously injured while the students suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash on the eastbound I-290 between Harlem Road and Main Street. The students were all reported in stable condition.
Two Injury School Bus Crashes Reported
Officials said a pickup truck was also involved in the collision and that the bus crashed and rolled over. The bus driver and the driver of the pickup truck were evaluated at the scene, but not hospitalized, police said. The cause of the crash is under investigation and no charges were filed, officials said. Students on the bus had been picked up from various districts and were headed to a learning center in Depew.
Another school bus crash was reported in Edison, New Jersey, which left two children injured. In that case, police said the school bus’s brakes were not working properly. Ring camera video shows the bus crashing into a home on Rahway Road. The bus driver reportedly told police she could not stop the bus when she hit the brakes, and that the bus accelerated.
It then careened into the garage of the home after taking down several fences. No one in the home was injured. CBS New York reported that the school bus was taken out of service in May because of an exterior body issue, but was approved to be put back into service after inspections. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were affected by these school bus accidents. We wish the injured here the very best for a quick and full recovery.
