A man died from injuries suffered in a pedestrian accident, which officials say, was caused by the driver of a FedEx tractor-trailer who left the scene of the deadly crash the night of Nov. 9. According to a report in the New York Daily News, the horrific accident occurred at the intersection of Caton Avenue and Coney Island in Windsor Terrace. The victim was hit by the truck and dragged before he fell off the undercarriage as the driver made a right turn, based on the news report. The man was then struck by a car.
Devastating Crash
Shaken witnesses said the man’s head was crushed by back-to-back hits. The driver of the FedEx truck, who police say was speeding at the time, never stopped. Police are looking for the truck and driver. FedEx officials have said they are fully cooperating with the investigation into this fatal pedestrian accident.
Video obtained by the Daily News captures the incident including the moments leading to the pedestrian collision. The 25-year-old driver of the car that had also hit the victim remained at the scene. Crashes on Coney Island and Caton avenues, which are both designated truck routes, are fairly common. Neighbors say drivers on the streets don’t pay attention to speed limits, often with catastrophic consequences for others on the road.
Accidents Involving Delivery Trucks
If you have been involved in a collision with a FedEx truck or any type of delivery truck, it is very important that you take the necessary steps after the accident. First, make sure you call 911 and get the medical attention and care you need. It is important that you file a police report and obtain a copy for your records. Your New York pedestrian accident lawyer can also do that for you.
Be sure to get the name, license and insurance details from the delivery vehicle’s driver. Obtain as much evidence from the scene as possible including photos, videos, statements from eyewitnesses, etc. Immediately contact an experienced personal injury lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and help ensure that your legal rights and best interests are protected.
In a hit-and-run collision, please remember that the driver involved and the vehicle owner can be held financially liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused whether or not the driver was arrested and/or charged. A hit-and-run accident victim can seek compensation through the uninsured motorist clause of his or her auto insurance policy (even though the driver has not been identified) or through a quasi-state agency if there is no motor vehicle in the victim’s household. Our law firm recovered $2,000,000 (two million dollars) in a hit-and-run accident.
Victims of a pedestrian collision may seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income and benefits, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, permanent injuries, disabilities, past and future pain and suffering, etc. The family of a deceased victim in such cases may be able to seek compensation for lost future income, medical and funeral costs, pain and suffering, etc. by filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible parties.
