Six People Injured in Horrific Wrong-Way Car Accident

Six people were injured in a wrong-way car accident on the Hutchinson River Parkway early morning on Dec. 16. According to a WABC news report, a driver was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the parkway and struck another vehicle near the Lincoln Avenue exit in Rye Brook just after midnight. The wrong-way driver suffered major injuries. There were five people in the other vehicle all of whom suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All six injured were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims.

Past Car Accidents on Hutchinson River Parkway

Hutchinson River Parkway, which is a major connector between Connecticut, the Hudson Valley and the five boroughs, has seen several deadly car accidents in the past. Earlier this month, a driver died in a single-car crash in New Rochelle when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a utility box. In September, another wrong-way crash killed a 62-year-old Connecticut resident, William Saleeby.

In that case, the wrong-way driver was impaired, police said. That driver, Jose Ramon Espinal, 48, was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter. In March 2023, five children were killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash after an unlicensed 16-year-old boy who was behind the wheel either fell asleep or became distracted and crashed the vehicle.
