Woman Struck and Injured by Limousine in Midtown Manhattan

A woman was injured in a pedestrian accident in Midtown after a limo hit her. According to a report in the New York Post, the victim was walking near the intersection of West 34th Street and Sixth Avenue the morning of Dec. 15 when the vehicle merged into a bus lane and struck her. A security worker at one of the stores at the location said that he was alerted when the woman, who had just exited a store, screamed.
Doctors rushed to help the injured woman. Paramedics who arrived at the scene placed her in a neck brace and put her on a stretcher. She was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Four women with young children were in the limo at the time. None of them appeared to be hurt. No arrests were made. The investigation is ongoing. We wish this injured woman the best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Laws Relating to Pedestrians

According to the New York City Department of Transportation, there were 214 traffic accident deaths in the city in 2017 of which 101 were pedestrians. In 2016, there were 231 traffic fatalities of which 148 were pedestrian deaths. In New York City, pedestrians are usually at a risk of getting struck inside crosswalks, or at intersections or near street intersections because of inattentive motorists who fail to yield the right of way.
New York law is very clear when it comes to pedestrians and crosswalks. Drivers are required to come to a full stop, yield the right of way to pedestrians and proceed only when it is safe to do so. However, not all drivers adhere to the law. Drivers fail to come to a full stop at crosswalks because they may be distracted by their cell phones or some other activity.

Injuries and Compensation

Victims who have been struck and injured by a motorist at a crosswalk or street intersection, may be able to seek compensation for their injuries, damages and losses from the at-fault motorist. It is also important to remember that you have the right to file a pedestrian accident lawsuit even if you were not in a crosswalk at the time of your accident.
