Karyn R. Stratton, 55, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Upstate New York the morning of June 21. According to a report on Syracuse.com, the fatal crash happened when the motorcycle on which she was a passenger collided with another vehicle at a street intersection in Marcellus. State troopers said a vehicle that was traveling north on Slate Hill Road entered the intersection of Route 20, failing to yield the right of way to the motorcycle, striking it.
Fatality and Injuries Reported
The motorcycle was traveling east on Route 20, officials said. Bruce Stratton who was driving the motorcycle as well as the passenger, Karyn Stratton, were ejected from the motorcycle before being transported to Upstate University Hospital. Karyn Stratton died later from her injuries while Bruce Stratton survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Morgan L. Heise, 18, was identified as the driver of the vehicle and she was not injured, police said. No arrests were reported pending an official investigation. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of Karyn Stratton for their tragic loss and wish the injured victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Left-turn Motorcycle Accidents
Left-turn motorcycle accidents are among the most common and dangerous crashes involving motorcyclists. These collisions often happen when a driver making a left turn fails to notice an approaching motorcycle, misjudges its speed or turns directly into the rider’s path. Because motorcycles offer less protection than passenger vehicles, the results can be devastating.
Common causes of left-turn motorcycle accidents include distracted driving, failure to yield, poor visibility, speeding, impaired driving and drivers incorrectly assuming they have enough time to complete a turn. In many cases, the motorcyclist is struck at an intersection, leaving little time to react or avoid the crash. The injuries from these accidents can be severe. Riders may suffer broken bones, road rash, spinal injuries, traumatic brain injuries and long-term disabilities, or death. Medical expenses, lost wages and benefits, permanent injuries and emotional trauma can create significant challenges after a collision.
Determining who is responsible is an important part of protecting your rights. Evidence such as traffic camera footage, witness statements, police reports and accident reconstruction may help establish liability. If you or a loved one has been injured in a left-turn motorcycle accident or if you’ve lost a loved one in such a crash, speaking with a personal injury attorney can help you understand your options and also how you can pursue your legal rights.
