A 65-year-old woman died two days after the vehicle in which she was traveling was T-boned by another vehicle in a Bronx car accident. According to a report in the New York Daily News, the victim was riding in the front passenger seat of a southbound black 2017 Honda CR-V on Bronx Park East when it was struck by an eastbound Ford in the Allerton Avenue intersection.
Officials said the Ford had just exited the northbound side of the Bronx River Parkway when it collided with the other vehicle. The impact hurtled the Ford into a utility pole in the southeast corner of the intersection. Medics rushed the injured victim to an area hospital where she remained for two days before succumbing to her injuries Aug. 26. The other occupants of the Honda — a man, a woman and a 4-year-old girl – were all taken to a hospital with neck pain. The 31-year-old driver of the Ford was also treated for neck pain. No charges were reported. The investigation is still ongoing.
Street Intersection Crashes
Street intersections tend to be dangerous locations where pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, drivers etc. face a risk of a collision with another vehicle. Car accidents that occur at street intersections may result in major injuries or even fatalities. Here are some of the most common types of street intersection crashes:
• Collision with oncoming vehicles, particularly when one of the vehicles is making a left or right turn. Crashes between vehicles and motorcycles are quite common especially when the vehicle tries to make a left turn and fails to spot the oncoming motorcyclist.
• Rear-end car accidents occur when a driver is inattentive, fatigued or distracted and does not realize that the driver ahead has stopped at the intersection.
• Broadside or T-bone crashes typically involve one driver who has run the red light or stop sign or failed to yield the right of way and ends up striking the side of the other vehicle. These are some of the most devastating crashes that may result in catastrophic or fatal injuries to victims.
• Side-swipe crashes may occur at intersections particularly when one or more vehicles are turning.
Factors that may lead to street intersection collisions include driver negligence and recklessness; running a red light, stop sign or failing to yield the right of way; lack of visibility at the intersection; tailgating or not leaving adequate space between vehicles; and driving at an excessive rate of speed, etc.
