Several People Injured by Delivery Truck on Long Island

delivery truck accidentA 56-year-old delivery truck driver has been arrested in connection with a large truck accident that involved several vehicles and resulted in at least seven people getting injured. According to a News 12 news report, the driver, Maxwell Taylor of Amsterdam, New York, has been charged for leaving the scene of a crash. Police say the delivery truck driver for Wal-Mart was traveling southbound on Newbridge Road near Falcon Street in East Meadow when its side-view mirror struck a school bus occupied by 18 student passengers.

Ongoing Investigation

Police say Taylor did not stop and continued southbound colliding with seven occupied vehicles on Jerusalem Avenue in North Bellmore before overturning in a parking lot. Four adults, including Taylor, and two children sustained non-life-threatening injuries as did a 16-year-old student passenger in the school bus.

Taylor is facing two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and has been released. He is due back for a court appearance on June 14. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this truck accident and we wish them the very best for a quick and full recovery.

Who is Liable for Delivery Truck Accidents?

There are a number of different parties that can be held liable for injuries sustained in a delivery truck or van accident. For example, the driver who operates the delivery truck or van may be held liable particularly if the accident was caused by the driver’s negligence (carelessness), recklessness or wrongdoing. In most cases, the driver’s employer can also be held liable.

If the driver’s inexperience or lack of training caused the accident, the employer may be held accountable for that. Also, if negligent (careless) hiring or employee retention had a role in the crash then the employer may be held accountable. In some cases, poor or inadequate vehicle maintenance may cause such accidents. In those cases, the employers may be held liable as well because they are required to maintain their fleets in good condition. Also, the truck owner may be held liable.
