Seven People Injured in Bronx School Bus Accident

school bus accidentSeven people were injured — three critically — in a Bronx school bus accident the afternoon of May 15. According to a CBS News report, the victims were hospitalized after the accident that involved multiple vehicles. Police said the crash occurred at Einstein Loop north and Hutchinson River Parkway east in Co-Op City. They said an 80-year-old man at the wheel of an SUV with a 70-year-old female passenger, collided with the mini school bus. Both were transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Critical Injuries Reported

Witnesses said the bus driver was stuck in the vehicle and firefighters had to cut the door to extricate him. Police said there were six people in the bus – four students, the driver and an attendant. One 21-year-old special needs student, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Three children — ages 8, 10 and 14 — and the attendant were all hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The bus driver was treated at the scene. A New York Post article said the driver of the SUV appeared to have run a red light before the crash. Two other vehicles were also involved in the collision. No other injuries were reported. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the injured victims of this bus crash, and we wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

If You Have Been Injured

If you or a loved one has been injured in a bus accident, there are several steps you should take to protect your legal rights. First, it is important that you file a report and ensure that your account of the incident gets into the official report. Get as much information as you can from the scene including names and contact information for fellow passengers, name of the bus driver, photographs from the scene, etc.

Preserve physical evidence from the scene such as torn or bloody clothing. If you are injured and unable to collect information, ask a friend or family member if they can do that for you. Your personal injury lawyer can also help gather this evidence. Get prompt medical attention, treatment and care for your injuries. Preserve all invoices and receipts related to the incident and your injuries. Promptly contact an experienced New York City bus accident lawyer who will fight for your rights and help secure just compensation for all your losses stemming from the injury accident.

Bus accident victims often suffer severe or even catastrophic injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord trauma, multiple broken bones, internal organ damage, facial and eye injuries, etc. Injured victims of bus accidents may seek compensation from the bus company and/or other responsible parties for damages including medical expenses, lost wages and benefits, hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injuries, disabilities, past and future pain and suffering, etc. Families that have lost loved ones can seek compensation for damages as well by filing a wrongful death claim.
