A fast-moving apartment fire in Coney Island the morning of Aug. 1 left one resident seriously injured and a firefighter hurt. According to a Bronx News 12 the fire broke out at a building on 2926 West 25th Street, between Surf and Mermaid avenues. FDNY crews rushed to the scene as flames tore through the apartment building. The fire was brought under control in about an hour. Officials said one resident was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, while a firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and FDNY officials began boarding up the apartment involved while investigators began work to determine what caused the fire. News12 reported that fire marshals sifted through the charred apartment and damaged areas of the building as they investigated the cause of the fire.
