One man was transported to the hospital with severe head injuries after a two-vehicle crash in Scipio Center. According to a news report in The Auburn Citizen, the crash occurred at the intersection of Center Road and Cork Street off Route 34. New York State Police troopers said a Toyota Camry driven by a young male was northbound on Cork when it was struck by a westbound pickup truck.
The force of the collision sent both vehicles into the yard of a nearby property on Center Road. The driver of the Camry suffered a severe head injury and was airlifted to an area hospital. The other driver was uninjured. There is no information about any other injuries. The investigation is still ongoing.

Car Accident Head Injuries
More than half of all reported traumatic brain injuries occur as a result of car accidents. A brain injury can happen as a result of any force or impact that penetrates or breaks the victim’s skull or without breaking the skull. A brain injury can occur during a car accident, for example, when the skull strikes an object in the vehicle like the steering wheel. Sometimes, the force of the collision can cause the brain to hit the internal bone structure of the skull. This may cause a contusion, bleeding or swelling of the brain. Symptoms of brain injuries include, but are not limited to, headache, loss of consciousness, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of memory, seizures, etc.
Head injury victims often undergo a number of challenges in the aftermath of an accident. They must deal with medical expenses, hospitalization and surgery costs and loss of income as a result of missing work. They may need continuing rehabilitation or even round-the-clock care, which can add up to millions of dollars over the victim’s lifetime. Many head injury victims also suffer permanent disabilities, which prevent them from being able to work or earn a livelihood again. Head injuries can leave victims with serious, permanent and debilitating health conditions.
