Yvette James, 79, was killed in a pedestrian accident in Brooklyn the afternoon of July 17. According to a WABC news report, police said a 62-year-old woman driving an SUV was turning right onto East 92nd Street from Rutland Road when she struck a sign and then the victim who was on the sidewalk. Witnesses said the driver was speeding before the SUV pinned the victim against a wall.
The impact of the crash apparently deployed the SUV’s airbags and left the front of the vehicle with serious damage. James, who was identified as the pedestrian, was pronounced dead. Her friends said James was just a block away from her home and was sitting on a planter as she often did to rest. The SUV’s driver was also taken to the hospital. She has not been charged pending an official investigation.
