Cecilia Armesto, 83, was killed in a pedestrian accident involving a FedEx truck. According to a news report in the Queens Chronicle, the fatal collision occurred when Armesto was crossing Union Turnpike at the intersection of 193rd Street. She was hit by a FedEx truck whose driver, a 72-year-old man, was headed south on 193rd Street before making a right turn onto Union Turnpike.
Ongoing Investigation
The driver of the FedEx truck remained at the scene. When emergency medical personnel arrived, Armesto was unconscious and unresponsive as her body had sustained trauma, officials said. She was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital in Queens. No arrests have been made and the NYPD Highway District is still investigating. We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of Cecilia Armesto for their tragic and heartbreaking loss.
Based on the news article, FedEx vehicles have recently been involved in multiple accidents. In May, a driver who got into a fender-bender on the Long Island Expressway was killed as a FedEx truck hit his car. Just weeks before that another FedEx truck hit a motorcyclist in Brooklyn.
Accidents Involving Delivery Trucks
If you have been involved in a collision with a FedEx truck or any type of delivery truck, it is very important that you take the necessary steps after the accident. First, make sure you call 911 and get the medical attention and care you need. It is important that you file a police report and obtain a copy for your records. Your New York pedestrian accident lawyer can also do that for you.
Be sure to get the name, license and insurance details from the delivery vehicle’s driver. Obtain as much evidence from the scene as possible including photos, videos, statements from eyewitnesses, etc. Contact an experienced personal injury lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and help ensure that your legal rights and best interests are protected.
If you have been injured in a pedestrian accident, you may be able to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income and benefits, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, permanent injuries, disabilities, past and future pain and suffering, etc. If you have lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident, you may be able to seek compensation by filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible parties.
