wetfloorA FedEx delivery man got a $2.9 million settlement in a slip-and-fall lawsuit that he filed against Cameron Mackintosh, Broadway producer of “Cats” and “Phantom of the Opera,” for injuries he suffered after slipping on a wet floor outside Mackintosh’s midtown office. According to a report in the New York Daily News, the floor had been mopped by Mackintosh’s personal cleaning lady after he said that the night cleaning crew provided by the building management at 1650 Broadway “did not meet his high standards for gleam.”
According to court papers, he brought in an employee to mop the floor. The lawsuit alleges that her sloppy mopping led to the deliveryman’s slip-and-fall incident. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital after the fall with serious injuries including a torn rotator cuff, ruptured quadriceps tendon, torn meniscus in his knee as well as neck and back injuries. A FedEx employee for 19 years, the victim became disabled after this incident and was forced to retire.

Slip-and-Fall Injuries
This incident is an example of the debilitating injuries that can result from a slip-and-fall accident. Slip-and-fall accidents can cause a variety of injuries including head injuries, neck and back injuries, broken bones, herniated disks and internal injuries. Slip-and-fall victims often require extended treatment and physical therapy, which could keep them away from their jobs. The costs of treatment and therapy can add up very quickly as well.
Compensation for Victims
Property owners and managers may be held liable for the injuries and damages caused in slip-and-fall cases. It is the responsibility of property owners and managers to ensure that there are no hazards on their premises. If there is a danger, such as a slippery floor, cones or signs must be placed at that location in order to warn visitors and guests. Injured victims of slip-and-fall accidents can seek compensation for damages including, but not limited to, medical expenses, lost wages and benefits, cost of hospitalization, lost future income, therapy costs, permanent injuries, disabilities, past and future pain and suffering, etc.
