A construction worker was killed after a contractor backed a van into him at a worksite in Brooklyn and then sped away, police said. According to a report in the New York Daily News, the fatal incident occurred the morning of June 1 when the victim, a 37-year-old man, was clearing construction debris from the roadway on Parrott Place in Bay Ridge. The driver of the van backed into the victim near 90th Street. The worker was briefly pinned between the van and the construction debris before the driver pulled away and the injured man fell to the street.
The van’s driver then sped south on Parrott Place, striking a parked vehicle and fleeing the scene. Medics rushed the injured worker to Langone Hospital where he died from his injuries. After speaking with witnesses and reviewing footage of the crash, investigators identified the driver of the van as 48-year-old Baber Choudhary. He was arrested later on June 1 after police contacted him over the phone and ordered him to return to the scene. Choudhary has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
