Construction Worker Falls 30 Feet, Suffers Injuries

A worker was injured in a construction site accident after he fell about 30 feet. According to The Times and Democrat, the accident occurred at a hospital construction site. The construction worker fell to a lower floor inside the building. He had to be freed by a ladder company and rescue squad. It is unclear what caused this serious fall and what the extent of the victim’s injuries was. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of this construction site accident.
Falling continues to be one of the most common and potentially dangerous jobsite accidents. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), fatal work-related falls declined by 2 percent in 2010 — from 645 in 2009 to 635 in 2010). Overall, fatal falls are down 25 percent from the series high of 847 fatal falls reported in 2007. Of the 645 fatal work-related falling accidents, 515 fatalities resulted from a fall to a lower level, 129 were from a ladder and 117 were from a roof.
Victims of construction accidents may seek compensation for their medical bills and a portion of their lost wages by filing for workers compensation benefits. In cases involving third-party negligence, additional compensation may be available through civil litigation. In either case, an experienced work injury attorney can be an invaluable asset when pursing compensation for a construction accident. Insurance companies and employers commonly deny claims, forcing injured workers to fight for the compensation they need.
