Bus Crash Leaves Nine Injured

At least nine people were injured after a chain reaction crash that involved two tour buses on the Interstate 95 in Stratford, Connecticut. According to a news report in The Connecticut Post, the bus crash occurred when an unknown vehicle cut off a tractor-trailer in the center lane. Both the truck driver and the driver of a Dartmouth Coach bus slowed suddenly. The driver of the second bus, owned by Autocar Preference Limited in Quebec, could not stop in time and ended up striking the Dartmouth bus, which in turn slammed into the tractor-trailer. A 2005 Dodge Magnum was also involved. Nine people were injured in all.
The drivers of the Dodge and the Quebec bus were issued infractions for following too closely. Both tour buses were headed to New York City. Federal officials are increasingly scrutinizing charter bus companies after a tour bus accident on March 12, 2011 killed 15 passengers traveling from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville to Chinatown in New York City. In that case, the bus crashed into an exit sign on the Interstate 95 in the Bronx.
Bus Accident Injuries
Bus accidents can result in fatal and serious injuries. It is indeed fortunate that no one was critically injured in this particular crash. Often bus accident victims suffer head injuries or chest injuries as a result of hitting their head or bodies against another seat or the interior of the bus. Passengers may also suffer broken bones, neck injuries, back injuries and internal organ injuries. The injuries may be even more severe if the victims are ejected out of the bus.
Compensation for Injured Victims
Bus companies – whether they are public or private carriers – owe their passengers the highest duty of care, which means that they are responsible for the safe transport of passengers. Injured bus crash victims can seek compensation from the at-fault parties for damages including, but not limited to, medical expenses, lost wages and benefits, cost of hospitalization, physical therapy, permanent injuries, disabilities, past and future pain and suffering, etc.
